Hi! My name is Lucia Enriquez. I am from Nashville Tennessee and am currently a freshman at Columbia University studying computer science with a Human Rights concentration. As a first-generation American, I have wanted to merge DEI initiatives through advocacy and social justice... work, I hope to merge equity initiatives with computer algorithms and investigative graphics. I want to do this through software engineering, research with policy think tanks or technology companies, or DEI initiatives in tech! I hope to reduce bias in algorithms, especially those used I law enforcement. I wanted to choose a university that reflected this mission themselves, and realize how stressful that can be during the application process! I studied abroad in turkey last summer learning Turkish, am pledging a fraternity called Alpha Kappa Psi, write for a policy journal, tutor, create graphics for Columbia’s largest newspaper, and work on computer science education with a campus CS club. This is all to say, I understand balancing financials, a social, and an academic life both during high school and university, and can definitely provide insight on this and Columbia as an institution.
