Hello everyone! My name is Jared Lyles, I am currently a senior at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), located in Ewing Township, New Jersey. Therefore, I have a unique vantage point, to discuss the experience in every year, freshman through senior. I will be obtaining my degree i...n Public Health through the School of Sciences. I am also excited to share that I have been accepted into the 4+1 year Masters program for Public Health at my School. I started my college career in 2018. My first two years of undergrad were traditional in fashion. However as we all know 2020 changed the entire world and completely flipped every college student or soon to be college student experience upside down. I would like to note that although COVID-19 caused everything to turn virtual, TCNJ has done an amazing job at keeping students engaged virtually through workshops, programs, fundraisers, mental health tips, study tips, and information surrounding COVID-19. TCNJ is ranked the #1 public school in the state of New Jersey and has held that title for many years. Academically the school is second to no other public school in the state, with the average class size of 20 students per class. This intimate classroom setting allows for students to build personal and lasting connections with faculty and staff. This opportunity has worked to my advantage on several occasions. The most notable reference to that point would be my acceptance into graduate school, two of my professors that teach masters courses both wrote me letters of recommendation to get into the graduate program, and I was accepted the next day. Additionally, they have pledged themselves to be mentors even beyond my college years. I am also a star player for TCNJ’S football team. Lastly, I serve as the Basileus (President) of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. at TCNJ, and serve as the third highest ranking officer in the district for my fraternity, which is comprised of five states (MD, DE, PA, NJ, and, NY). I would tell any high school student to give TCNJ an extremely close look when discussing college. I am excited to connect and talk with anyone who has TCNJ in mind!
