University of California, Santa Barbara – UCSB

I am a second year at UC Santa Barbara studying Biopsychology. On campus, I serve as a board member for SKYATUCSB, a yoga, meditation, and breathwork club that uses research-based findings to help college students learn the skills to practice stress-reduction methods for sustain...able goals. I held a research position at the Simpson Lab during my first year at UCSB, focusing on fruit fly neuron identification, localization and 3D visualization. I also work as a home care aid for Right At Home, a senior home care service that provides independence and specialized care for elders within the comfort of their own home. Throughout my developing interest in medicine, I continuously find myself drawn in the anthropological perspective of healthcare, more specifically - how cultures impact our ability to trust patient caregivers and advocate for our own health. I chose UCSB because I wanted a balanced and healthy environment to nurture my understanding and to shape the world I am entering into. Santa Barbara is undoubtedly beautiful, but the campus community is also incredibly diverse in thought, renowned for both research and interdisciplinary opportunities, and provides healthy outlets to reset and recalibrate while allowing me to achieve my intellectual and professional goals. When I am not studying or researching, I love to run, rollerblade, and deepen my yoga practice. Show more
